To master something is to make it automatic.

To be a professional is to do one thing for a living.

What a simple life that would be! I am rather an amateur by nature: a cultivator of many passions and an embodied affirmation of life. One's intuition and sense of the sublime only deepen with a greater variety of experiences, made whole by sincere and unconditional love of life.

My name is Jared Neumann.

I am dedicated to bringing the full weight of history to bear on the task at hand. But what task? In a word, my task is exuberance.

I have been a tutor, professor, historian, philosopher, game designer and developer, artist, linguist, musician, engineer, and more, to greater or lesser degrees. However, I have shamefully kept most of my pursuits to myself until now.

This site is an experiment in turning outward, or, as the kids these days might call it, unmasking.

The motivation is simple and essentially human: to increase my capacity for exuberance by finding kindred spirits, bringing others into the circle, and doing the work to clear every obstacle.

The hope is to bring some novelties into the world for our shared appreciation and edification.

The topics that I pursue will be updated on this page on a regular basis.

In the Notebook, you can expect to see cultural criticism, philosophical reflections, cool ideas, educational content, and the occasional technical exposition.

In Projects, you can expect to see art, music, games, apps, visualizations, and other things I have made that have more than a written component.
